Day 53!!!

wow time is really flying!! Ran Niagara Ultra this past Saturday and the first half went really well! About 30K in I started getting the worst leg cramps I have ever had in my life and as time went on I wondered if anyone had ever dropped out of a 50K at 45K in! I did make it (substantially over my goal time) eventually. My spirits stayed pretty good throughout and my breathing was good. No digestive issues either so i will take those small victories! I’m running Jerry’s Peachbud 5K tonight with our running clinic and tomorrow it’s back to the grind!

65 Days to go! Well it’s Thursday and I’ve had a pretty good week so far! (In spite of all the rain! :-() Ran 40 km on Monday and felt pretty good- kept a decent pace and didn’t feel ruined after- even put in a solid 7 hours at work that evening! I figure that’s good endurance training right there! Rain 5 easy with our walk-run clinic Tuesday morning and walked 5 that evening. Biked for an hour yesterday, did elliptical at the gym and did some light speedwork for 5. Today I feel quite human so I will run some hills tonight. I’ve been trying to keep my food in check- running 50 miles carrying 10 or 20 pounds less would be great! but the drinking isn’t really falling into place!! who knew??? oh well, I’ll give up broccoli for rum any day! ūüôā

DAY 80!!!

Wow!! Time flies when you’re having fun!! So here we are…. I had a great 40K training run a week ago last Saturday! Then drove 14 hours to Montreal and back last Friday to pick iup my new orange JEEP!!! It’s fabulous!! but (there’s always a but isn’t there?) the very long day and dime spot antagonizing drive left me dreading my race at Sulphur Springs. Dreading! It’s one of my favourite races! So I decided to knock my distance down to 25K and was very happy about my decision! I ran with my recovering running partner and it was a beautiful day! Walked the next day and Monday, ran with our level 2 group yesterday morning and knocked out a decently paced 10K today. Also took my hard top off today so feeling a bit sore right now! Clinic run twice tomorrow, hills on Friday and a middle distance tempo run on Saturday. That’s the plan anyway and it’s always good to have a plan! ūüôā

Well, I didn’t do the math when I decided to do the 99 day thing again so I am actually starting my blog on a rest day!! at least I have a good chance of following my schedule today! ūüôā Anyway, to day is a rest day as I am running 40 km tomorrow. I will run from Grimsby Runners to Confederation Park (tomorrow is the Subaru Niagara Running Series Confederation Park 5K) to see our runners start the race and then run back home.It’s meant to be cool tomorrow but hopefully no rain! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

That’s right everyone! I’m going to try again! I’ll start the blog on May 10 aiming for the Beast of Burden 50 Miler on August 17th. I had to delay last year after a bout with skin cancer that required several surgeries and 20 radiation treatments and rotator cuff surgery after falling in my local creek! What a year!!! This one has to be better! So stay tuned! More to come starting May 10th!!!

Day 51!!!

well we got through 50K on saturday and ran 5 at Jerry’s Peachbud¬†last night. it was a good weekend! the weather was a bit on the warm side on saturday but¬†certainly not as warm as it has been in the past! the course is great and my only criticism is that if you increase your registration to over 600 people you might want to provide¬†more than 5 port-a-potties, staggered start or not. just sayin’…. glad i¬†didn’t have to go when i¬†got back at the end of the race! a friend mentioned that she didn’t know how i¬†could look so fresh at the end of the race and then, an hour later after i¬†had been sitting¬†down, look like such shit! hahaha! that’s the nature of the beast!

i tried a new type of nutrition on race day ( I know, I know, NEVER do anything new on race day, but….) and it worked pretty well….. did not manage to keep with my plan to not eat after 6 the night before so still ended up visiting a few facilities up until the half way point. still working on the digestive logistics!!!!

i¬†managed to run 5K with our clinic on Monday night and walked a lot yesterday as well as the race so we’re on the road to recovery. plan on running a bit of trail today as the next race (the Limber Lost Challenge 56K) promises to be¬†a challenging one. onward¬†and upward!!!

DAY 56!!

today is a rest day! running 50k tomorrow at the Niagara Ultra and thank goodness the heat has subsided! I think if tomorrow had been like yesterday i¬†would have just guarded the cooler while everyone else ran! as it is, i’m¬†kind of looking forward to it. AND i get a hoodie!

i¬†have run a couple short, easy runs this week and i’m¬†eating pizza and drinking rum and diet today to stockpile. i won’t eat after about 6 in hopes that my stomach is not a total disaster in the morning.

i¬†have been very tired and achy lately, i¬†have a SORE shoulder and i¬†was stung¬†by a bee two nights ago which has my whole arm feeling a little woogie. bad news? arm and shoulder are same side. good news? some of my best runs have started out on an apparent down like this…. high hopes! and i’ll keep you posted!!

day 64!!! sorry i¬†dropped off the face of the earth! i¬†was sick as a dog for almost a week – i¬†guess that’s what my bonk during the clinic run was leading up to. I still managed to run the 12 Mile Creek half marathon a week and a half ago and it was a beautiful course on a beautiful day. Thanks to St Catharines Road Runners for another great event!

Since then I have been getting¬†some shorter runs in and I’m consulting with a holistic nutritionist to tweek¬†my diet a little! ūüôā ya think???? i’ve¬†had to have a rum and diet and some chips while i consider the wonder of it all!!!

so i will do a 15K or so this weekend and take it a bit easy this coming week to prepare for the Niagara Ultra 50K (another fabulous SCRR event)on June 23. i will be dancing this saturday night at the grimsby legion as part of my cross training- and then just some easy runs and work the rest of the week. I have cleared the days off for the 50 miler with work so now i really have to do it!

day 81….

well sulphur springs did NOT go the way i¬†planned! it was a beautiful day! a bit warm in the sun and humid ¬†but in the woods it was cool and that was NICE!! This is a sentimental race for me-¬†it was my first trail race and i still love it. the crew is awesome even without Dieter…. positive thoughts are with him!!

The first lap went very well. the second took a long time and i realized, much to my dismay, that if our¬†third lap was the same speed or slower i¬†would barely make it home in time to get to work. I struggled with the decision but as my running partner suggested-¬†i think you know what you have to do you just¬†don’t like the idea.

So i¬†finished 30K….. in 5 hours. I hit every porta-potty on the course :-S¬†and I’m not sure how to manage this… Lactose intolerant? I may experiment with a dairy free diet but i¬†LOVE cheese! Hmmmph!¬†I consider this to be¬†a decent work out anyway and apparently my legs agree because they are still complaining a little bit. working saturday and sunday night probably didn’t help! I will run 12 Mile Creek half-marathon (another hidden gem!)¬†on saturday as my middle distance run¬†and do something long the weekend after. it’s 4 weeks until my next training race (Niagara Ultra 50K) and i¬†plan to put in 3.5 weeks of solid training and somewhat healthy eating- I may die or get faster, we’ll see which one wins out! ūüôā

well here we are at day 84!!!

Tomorrow is¬†the first race of our training schedule, the Sulphur Springs 50K trail run. I love this race and tomorrow promises to be¬†a sunny and possibly cooler day which would be fantastic. i¬†have to work tomorrow night so i’m¬†not sure how my post race will look…. i don’t think it will be pretty!! ūüôā

I have altered my diet slightly by limiting my cocktail consumption today (so far) in hopes of being somewhat hydrated when i¬†start.¬† My carnartion¬†instant breakfast upset my tummy a bit this morning but i¬†will probably risk it tomorrow anyway because of the energy it gives me. i¬†had a sandwich and chicken noodle soup for lunch and will probably have mashed potatoes for dinner. i¬†LOVE potatoes!!! i¬†have to work tonight also so tonight’s sleep will b limited but i¬†had a long sleep last night and i’m hoping that will carry me over!

my rest day today involved cleaning out the garage, a dump run and trying to fix the garage door opener so basically all the things we tell people in our clinics NOT to do. Oh! I didn’t garden! so there! it IS a rest day after all!!
